Overview

Owning and running a couple of surf schools in Costa Rica had never been a life long dream of either Tyler or Tim, Safari Surf School's owners ... it just kind of fell into their laps so to speak. Growing up on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, they had long hoped to establish themselves in a peaceful, tropical environment, where they could share their love for surfing with each other and their families.

Together, Tim and Tyler have surfed around the world in places such as Australia, Bali, Baja, Maldives, Mentawai Islands, California, Fiji, Hawaii, Mexico, Tahiti, and Jamaica, but it wasn’t until they bought land in Costa Rica in 1995 that they were able to fulfill the pursuit of their dream... to live in an area with un-crowded surf and a peaceful lifestyle. Unfortunately for Tim, he tried to retire before he had made any money... reality hit him that he would need to return home to the States and prepare for fatherhood and get a job! Tyler, with no ties and truly in paradise, decided to make Costa Rica his permanent address. After getting to know their surroundings and realizing that it was an ideal atmosphere for the establishment of a surf school (there were none present at the time), Tyler and Tim decided to act upon their idea and bring people to the most beautiful place in the world to share a passion for surfing.

Tim and Tyler's background in surfing and in the area combine to help them create ideal vacations and learning experiences for clients. Surfing has become commercialized in the last decade, and they thought it would be refreshing to instill the true essence of surfing for newcomers, or revitalize the energies of the occasional surfer with the creation of Safari Surf School. Their approach to teaching others to surf is simple: patience and a sense of humor mixed with a vast knowledge of ocean environment. Tyler and Tim truly enjoy what they are doing and it shows. Come with an open mind and an open heart, and Safari Surf School will guarantee you, you’ll not only learn to surf and understand the ocean but your entire outlook on life may change as well.

So join Safari Surf School and enlighten yourself physically and mentally. Instructors are Red Cross certified in CPR and proficient in life-saving techniques. Safety is as important to Safari Surf School as the fun!

Reservation Policy

Safari Surf School allows its guests to come and go on their own schedule at the Nosara location. We have a set schedule at the Santa Teresa location. Please be advised that if you are planning on coming during the Thanksgiving, Christmas or Easter seasons you will need to reserve well in advance.

Cancellation Policy

Safari Surf School will refund 100% of any deposit within 30 days of scheduled arrival. If Safari Surf School has incurred costs that are not recoverable such as airfares or hotel penalties, these costs will be passed on to the guest.

Any cancellations between 30 and 14 days prior to scheduled arrival shall be subject to 15% penalty of said deposit in addition to any unrecoverable costs as stated above.

Any cancellation within 14 days of scheduled arrival shall be subject to 50% penalty of said deposit in addition to any unrecoverable costs as stated above.
